Jim has been involved in the arts in one way or another for 33 years. First as an actor, training at The Guildford School of Acting and the prestigious Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, and then working professionally as an actor and forming his own company, before becoming a celebrated writer and director.
His motivation for setting up The Cartwright Drama Studio came from the many recent articles and statements released from leading members of the theatrical world, concerning the lack of opportunity for many these days to gain entrance to the profession or even training. This is Jim's attempt to give something back from his years of experience by offering quality training to the community in the area in which he lives and beyond. The aim is for the Studio to develop as a space for experimentation and exploratation.
It is his hope that for those who wish to, the studio will be able to equip them for a career in the acting profession.
It is also hoped, that it will provide for those who may have a strong interest in studying acting for it's own sake and for those who may see it as a way to develop confidence and communication skills.
Acceptance to the studio will be by application only.
