HOW CARTWRIGHT DRAMA STUDIO YOUTH CAME ABOUT
Following on from the hugely successful Cartwright Drama Studio acting classes for adults, run by multi award winning leading British and International playwright,
Jim, major British TV, film and theatre practitioner, is also a director and actor.
His work has been translated into over 35 languages and is constantly in production around the world and has been produced at most of the major theatres including Broadway, the West End, The National Theatre and The Royal Court.
Jim set up the acting studio in response to the recent vocal outcry from many prominent figures in the acting profession, that training in too many cases lies beyond the reach of a lot of folk, and even entry into the industry is becoming gradually restricted to those of privilege. He therefore set up affordable acting classes in his local town of Chorley as a way of giving something back.
Word soon got around about the wonderful success of the adult classes and requests started to flood in to Jim about classes for the younger ones.
So now we are happy to introduce a unique and exciting opportunity to train under the direction of Jim run by Tracy Higgins.
Cartwright Drama Studio Youth
Tracy has a BA Hons degree in performing arts. She began her career as an actress later moving into theatre in education in which she has over 10 year experience.
“The Cartwright Drama Studio is one of the best things that’s happened to my career to date: I’ve been working with Jim for a year now and in that time I have grown as an actor, but also as a writer. Jim has given me the confidence to realise that anything is possible with hard work, imagination and the support of a great community of likeminded people…and that’s exactly what the studio is - a community of fantastic people. One of the best things about the group is that not everyone has a professional background, and the mixture of people is exciting and invigorating with a constant atmosphere of determination and hope. In such a short time I’ve been privileged to have taken part in two agent showcases with material that I’VE written, I’ve been signed to his now flourishing agency Cartwright Higgins Management, and we’re also about to embark on Jim’s landmark project “The Cartwright Cabaret” where we will again present to industry connections in a few weeks time. If you’d have told me all of this would have happened 12 months ago, it would have been hard to believe. Who knows what the future will bring?” S. C....Chorley
Just do it! Don’t think about joining, join. It’s fun and exciting but most of all these classes challenge your own individual creativity, so it becomes unique.
"Walking into a room with such an established, successful playwright, was, at the very least, a tad daunting. As the nerves eased over the weeks, I feel blessed to say I saw an explosion of creativity. This was no ordinary acting class. Over twenty different intricate, fun, hurt, mad, sensitive characters emerged. And somehow, after four years out of acting, I wrote a monologue. And I was proud of it. And it meant something to me. And my mindset changed. And my belief in myself changed. And now my piece is a two person immersive theatre piece that has been requested to show at an event in London. Jim doesn't just teach acting techniques. He lets you into his secret, of how your success is in your hands." E. B....Chorley
"I love Jim's classes. My fellow actors are so full of character they're amazing and working with Jim's scripts and his direction is inspirational not just for the acting but for our writing too. I think his approach and the content of the classes is unique, I've certainly never done anything like it before." R. E....Chorley
"I haven't any professional training before. So to get the opportunity to work with Jim and be a part of his class every Saturday it has been absolutely amazing! To go back to basics of using our imagination and playing make belief in order to find new, fresh and original characters it has been so much fun! Such a lovely atmosphere every week with people who look after each other and want each other to reach that next level as performers. Because im quite conscious person, this class is helping me come out of my shell more and more every week as an actor. Jim is an absolutely lovely man, so down to earth and encouraging. I could not have made a better decision joining this class. Everyone is exceptionally talented and I really want to work with them all at some point in the future! Thanks so much for taking me on! I would definitely recommend others to take on this class! I'm now thoroughly looking forward to seeing everyone blossom at the showcase! Thanks again Jim!" R. C....Manchester
"Jim Cartwright’s classes are the most unique approach to exploring the art of acting and drama I have experienced. I have found them challenging, creative and been taken through some truly original techniques to activate the imagination. There is great camaraderie with the students and the kinship felt makes us so much more than a drama class." D.D....Chorley
"Through Jim's positive advice and gentle encouragement, my confidence has increased significantly, helping me to believe in myself. Classes have far exceeded my expectations and it is a privilege to work alongside playwright royalty. " J. B....Chorley
'Going to Cartwright's drama studio was the best decision I ever made. Not only is Jim encouraging supportive and inspirational in performing but also in writing our own monologues.' S.D...Manchester
"I joined Jim's Drama Studio having taken a year off from acting classes due to professional commitments. I realised I missed the training and acting lessons, which are so important to constantly improve and evolve as an actor so I decided to join Jim's classes. I'm so glad I did. Each week I'm filled with confidence and hope that I can make my living as a professional actor. Morevoer, the skills I have learned, I've already managed to put to use in professional productions. I'm looking forward to further developing my acting ability under Jim's tutelage and I'm loving working each week with such a talented group of actors. Money definitely well spent!" A. "I stumbled by happen chance on Jim Cartwright classes. I had no previous understanding
of the application of drama. Not a clue what all the vocal warm ups were about and not to mention my lack of knowledge of the arts. 2 years on I look back at my naivity and in awe of Jim and
Tracy who showed me the way to unlock my potential, to be more confident, to be more knowledgeable, to be a better version of me. Jim and Tracy have a natural genuine ability to ensure you
flourish, develop new ideas and put action to plans. Unique and brilliance springs to mind. I always felt supported and equal regarding my newness to drama. Classes with Jim and Tracy rock.
Filled with unity and a strong bond of friendship within the class group. Great value and respect is paramount and the general consensus of the group. For me the most important part of Jim and
Tracy's class is the nurture and fun with a capital F. Many laughter tears have rained. I am so glad i happen chanced upon the class. I am thankful to Jim and Tracy. I believe today that I can
stand on a stage and words will come out, because 2 special people chose to believed in me.
Thank you Jim and Tracy for all you do." S.K....Chorley
